Jakub Václav Flasar

Systems Security & Software Development

Cybersecurity student passionate about computer science, systems programming, and reverse engineering. Building fast and secure systems from the ground up.

About Me

I'm a cybersecurity student with a strong foundation in computer science, gained through programming in my free time. I learned networking basics in CCNA courses throughout my high school years. My passion lies in understanding how systems work at the lowest levels - from hardware interactions to network protocols.

Through self-directed projects, I've gained experience in systems programming, reverse engineering, and infrastructure management. I believe that building fast & secure systems requires deep understanding of the underlying technology stack.

Projects

WebAssembly Interpreter

Zig WASM Runtime Systems

A WIP WebAssembly interpreter implementation from scratch, demonstrating understanding of virtual machine architecture and bytecode execution.

One day I'd like to run DOOM through it, but it's not quite there yet.

  • Memory management and stack machine implementation
  • Instruction parsing and execution engine

reMarkable 2 E-Ink Driver

Zig Linux Hardware

Low-level E-Ink display driver enabling custom applications on reMarkable 2 tablet, involving reverse engineering and system-level programming.

  • Binary format analysis and parsing
  • Kernel <-> userspace communication
  • Multi-threaded rendering engine

IoT Door Control Integration

Python IoT Home Assistant

Open-source Home Assistant integration for Siegenia IoT doors, reverse-engineered from proprietary protocols. Actively used by the community.

  • Protocol reverse engineering
  • Real-world deployment and usage
  • Open-source community contribution

University Canteen Mobile App

Flutter API Analysis Mobile

Mobile application for university canteen ordering system, built by reverse engineering the existing web API to create a better user experience.

It's project to 'scratch my own itch' and although it's not distributed by my university, I'm quite proud of the final UX.

  • REST API reverse engineering
  • Cross-platform mobile development
  • User experience optimization
  • Network protocol analysis

AI Learns Pong

Python TensorFlow Machine Learning

Reinforcement learning implementation where an AI agent learns to play Pong from scratch.

The goal of this project was to dip my toes into machine learning.

  • Reinforcement learning implementation
  • Game environment simulation
  • Neural network training
  • Performance analysis and optimization

Personal Homelab Infrastructure

Proxmox Docker Home Assistant ESPHome Mikrotik Microsoft Exchange WireGuard VPN Zabbix

Self-managed homelab environment for learning, experimentation and of course general server usage.

Currently actively in use by me, friends and family.

  • Virtualization with Proxmox
  • Container orchestration and management
  • Network segmentation and security
  • Service deployment and monitoring
  • Backup and disaster recovery
